Quill Meet 0.6.0 for Mac: Recording, Notes and Action Items on the Desktop

Quill Meet for Mac version 0.6.0 is available now. It does three things: it records meetings, it produces notes from them, and it pulls out the action items. It runs on the Mac desktop, and a Windows version is coming soon.

That is the whole announcement. The rest of this post covers what those three things look like in a working day, who can use it today, and where to get it installed.

What Quill Meet does

Quill Meet takes a meeting and turns it into something you can act on afterward. There are three parts.

Recording. The meeting is captured, so there is a record of what was actually said rather than what everyone remembers was said.

Notes. From that recording, Quill Meet produces notes. You don't have to split your attention between listening and typing.

Action items. Quill Meet also produces action items: the things somebody agreed to do. These are often what matters most once a meeting ends, and they're the easiest to lose.

We're keeping this description to what the release does. Version 0.6.0 is about getting those three pieces onto the desktop.

Why this matters for insurance teams

Insurance work runs on conversations. A lot of what gets decided gets decided out loud, then has to be carried into email, a system of record or a to-do list by whoever was paying closest attention.

A few ordinary examples:

  • A renewal review. You walk through a policy with a colleague and agree on what needs to be checked before the renewal goes out. Afterward, the notes give you the discussion and the action items give you the checklist.
  • An internal team huddle. Five people, ten minutes, four decisions. Without notes, each person leaves with a slightly different version. With notes and action items, there is one version.
  • A handoff. Someone is going out, and their work is being covered. The meeting where that gets explained is exactly the one you want written down.

In each case the value isn't a clever summary. It's that the follow-up exists in writing at the end of the meeting instead of depending on memory later.

What's in version 0.6.0

This release is Quill Meet for Mac, version 0.6.0. In it, Quill Meet:

  • records meetings
  • produces notes
  • produces action items

The version number is honest about where things stand: this is an early release, and we'll keep shipping updates. If you're on a Mac, you can install it and use it today.

Windows is coming soon

If your team is on Windows, a Windows version of Quill Meet is coming soon. We don't have a date to share in this post. When it ships, we'll announce it the same way we're announcing this one.

In the meantime, Mac users on mixed teams can start now. Notes and action items are useful to everyone who was in the meeting, whatever machine they're on.

How to install Quill Meet for Mac

The install steps live on the Quill Meet download page, and that page is the one to follow:

Quill Meet — download and install

We're pointing you there rather than repeating the steps here so you always get the current instructions for the current version. In short:

  1. Open the Quill Meet download and install page.
  2. Download Quill Meet for Mac, version 0.6.0.
  3. Follow the install steps listed on that page.

If something on your machine doesn't match what the page describes, that's useful to know. Tell us, and we'll fix the page or the release.

A good way to try it

If you're deciding whether Quill Meet fits how your team works, don't start with your most important meeting. Start with an ordinary one: a weekly check-in, a short internal call, a working session with one colleague.

Afterward, look at two things:

  • The notes. Do they reflect what was discussed?
  • The action items. Are the things people agreed to do on the list?

That second question is the real test. A meeting that ends with a clear list of who does what is a meeting that actually moves work forward.

What's next

Two things are coming. The Windows version is on its way, and Quill Meet for Mac will keep getting updates after 0.6.0.

For now: if you're on a Mac, download Quill Meet 0.6.0, follow the install steps, and try it in your next meeting. Let it record, read the notes, and check the action items.
